When you have a lot of body fat, this means that you are overweight, and you are obese. Obesity is a common problem in the UK as 1 in every 4 adults and 1 in every 5 children are obese from the age of 10 to 11.
To check if you are obese, you can get your BMI (Body Mass Index) measured and then you will know if you are obese or not.
18.5 to 24.9 | Healthy weight |
25 to 29.9 | Overweight |
30 to 39.9 | Obese |
40 or above | Severely obese |
Obesity can cause you to have type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, breast cancer, bowel cancer, stroke etc.
To avoid getting obese you need to exercise regularly, eat healthy, check your weight when you are overweight and check again to see if you have lost any weight.
