What causes a stroke?

A stroke is caused when the blood supply to part of the brain is cut off. It is a serious life-threatening medical condition. It is very important that whoever has a stroke must receive treatment immediately to avoid the stroke from getting worse.

There are two types of stroke which are ischaemic and haemorrhagic. If you suffer from an ischaemic stroke, this is known as a mini stroke and can last up to 24 hours.

If you have health conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, irregular heartbeats and diabetes, these increase the risks of having a stroke.

To reduce the risk of suffering from a stroke, you should do the following:

  1. Healthy eating
  2. Regular exercise
  3. Quit smoking
